Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and vitamin B12 help prevent lactic acidosis. Vitamin B1 (thiamine) and vitamin B12 are protective against lactic acidosis. Acidosis causes include severe liver disease, deep ketosis, excessive apple cider vinegar, and excessive kombucha consumption. Diabetic ketoacidosis is a medical emergency distinct from nutritional ketosis. Nutritional ketosis achieved through a ketogenic diet is fundamentally different from ketoacidosis. Nutritional ketosis occurs when some insulin is present, which prevents runaway fat oxidation and keeps ketone levels in a physiologically normal, stable range. Physiological ketosis produces ketone levels of 0.5–3 mmol/L, which is safe and beneficial, whereas diabetic ketoacidosis produces levels of 10–12+ mmol/L, which is a medical emergency. Physiological ketosis from fasting or keto diets is a fundamentally different condition from diabetic ketoacidosis and should not be conflated. Ketoacidosis cannot develop through a normal ketogenic diet in someone who is not a Type 1 diabetic. Glucotoxicity — damage from chronic high blood glucose — is far more common and deadly than ketosis-related risks, yet receives less public attention. Con…
