Vacuum suction of 75 mm Hg is applied manually for active subperiosteal drainage. Subperiosteal drainage places the drain outside the skull over the burr hole rather than in the subdural cavity. The experimental drain is an FG10 Exudrain incorporated into a closed suction system. Subperiosteal placement may reduce the risk of drain-related parenchymal injury. Active subperiosteal drainage is the experimental intervention in the SUPERDURA trial.
