The study compares people with and without chronic pain and compares groups within the chronic pain cohort for fiscal years 2014 to 2022. The quantitative component is a retrospective cohort study using population-based administrative data. Propensity scores will be created with multivariable logistic regression to account for confounders. The chronic pain cohort will be identified using a validated case-finding algorithm adapted for British Columbia data. The study will examine health service use by fiscal year among people with chronic pain.
