After adjustment, adulthood-only migration was associated with better cognitive function compared with non-migration. The cognitive and self-rated health associations for adulthood-only migrants were modest at the individual level. The observed cognitive advantage among adulthood migrants may partly reflect pre-existing health differences rather than a direct effect of migration. Poorer self-rated health among adulthood-only migrants may reflect structural disadvantages faced by internal migrants in China. After adjustment, adulthood-only migration was associated with slightly higher odds of poorer self-rated health compared with non-migration.
