Alginate efficacy in GERD is described as well established. Alginates differ from ordinary antacids. The alginate replacement arm stops PPI and uses Gaviscon Antacid-Antireflux four times daily during the deprescribing strategy. Alginates are derived from seaweed and form a viscous gel raft over gastric acid fluid. Patients using magaldrate-based products more than once weekly during the previous 2 months are excluded from participation.
