Titanium mesh can maintain space in alveolar bone atrophy rehabilitation but exposure is a frequent complication that may reduce bone gain. TS-GBR has been associated with greater horizontal bone gain and lower bone resorption rates than conventional GBR over 1 to 5 years. Compared with onlay bone grafts, tenting screws were reported to produce greater bone gain and less bone resorption. Non-resorbable membranes require a second surgery for removal. Expanded or high-density polytetrafluoroethylene membranes may support vertical and horizontal augmentation, but exposure and infection are concerns.
