Anoxic processing is intended to preserve viable oxygen-sensitive bacteria, including butyrate producers. The stool sample is transferred to an anaerobic chamber within 30 minutes. Donor stool for TURN2 is collected into a vacuum container, treated with oxygen-scavenger sachets, and evacuated to 97% vacuum. Processed FMT is frozen in labelled foil-covered syringes at −70°C. Standard aerobic stool processing destroys many gut bacteria before transplantation, especially obligate anaerobic butyrate producers.
