Antenatal and Community-Based Care

Home visits during pregnancy by community health workers reduced perinatal mortality. Birth preparedness interventions reduced perinatal mortality. Group antenatal care had unknown benefit for perinatal mortality compared with one-on-one care. Community health worker home visits may improve outcomes by early danger sign identification, better antenatal care adherence, birth preparedness, counselling, and timely care-seeking. Reduced antenatal visit schedules were associated with possible harm through increased stillbirth risk.
