Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen can reduce inflammation and may provide temporary relief. The patient used diclofenac 75 mg as an anti-inflammatory for more than six months. Painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs functioned like a temporary bandage, relieving pain during use without curing the underlying problem. Anti-inflammatory medication does not address the source of the underlying muscle control problem. When the patient stopped taking anti-inflammatory medication, pain would return if a triggering event occurred. Pain medication reduced symptoms but did not resolve the underlying cause of back pain. If the underlying muscle control issue is not resolved, irritation can recur the next time the elbow is used in the same way.
