All 31 interviewed participants reconsidered antidepressant use after exposure to the resources. Earlier deprescribing conversations appeared more likely to succeed than conversations after longer antidepressant use. Australian guidelines generally recommend antidepressant therapy for 6–12 months after a single episode of moderate-to-severe depression. Antidepressant use has roughly doubled in developed countries over the past decade. Many patients continue antidepressants beyond guideline recommendations because of limited awareness, beliefs about lifelong treatment, and fear of withdrawal.
