Atrazine

Monitoring in Iowa found atrazine metabolites more frequently than atrazine itself in drinking water samples. Atrazine use was banned in Europe in 2003 and restricted in the USA in 2001. Atrazine is a potent endocrine disruptor with estrogen-mimicking properties. Atrazine residues are commonly present in conventionally grown produce unless the food is certified organic. Groundwater atrazine levels continue to exceed regulatory limits in many countries despite restrictions. Atrazine is the most widely used herbicide in the United States and one of the most prevalent obesogens in the food supply. Atrazine is widely used in the USA, Australia, and Canada.
