Integrated Gradients produced more biologically plausible ASD biomarkers than attention in this study. Attention-based attribution had much worse input stability than Integrated Gradients while preserving the broad hub-sensitivity pattern. Attribution choice strongly changed which brain regions were reported as biomarkers. The study computed saliency using either model attention scores or Integrated Gradients. The study supports evaluating multiple attributors for each predictor instead of reporting a single saliency map.
