The design permits unlimited data inspection without inflating error rates or requiring multiplicity corrections. The practical upper bound for randomized participants is about 1,000, with 1,250 to 1,429 recruited to account for attrition. Monthly monitoring begins when the first 6-month follow-up data become available.
