Brain hemisphere dominance imbalance is used as a population-level example to illustrate the link between hemisphere weakness and asymmetric sweating. Both meditation and sex produce a shift from the left brain to the right brain. Shifting into the right brain moves a person beyond their individual self into a sense of connection with totality. The left brain is associated with analytical thinking and individual identity. Females are typically described as right-brain dominant, making the left hemisphere the comparatively weaker side in many cases. A group of predominantly right-brain-dominant women would be expected to show more sweating on the left side due to weaker left-hemisphere inhibition.
