Brainstem

The brainstem, at the junction where the spinal cord meets the brain, is the site of highest excitotoxic damage concentration. Brainstem pain from MSG reflects disproportionate excitotoxic damage at that anatomically critical site. MSG consumption causes pain localized to the brainstem region.
