Caregiver-Inclusive Infection Prevention

Longitudinal and interventional studies are needed to identify approaches that close the knowledge-practice gap. The study identifies healthcare staff encouragement as an underused way to improve hand hygiene practice, but it does not establish causality. Healthcare professionals should actively and systematically encourage caregiver hand hygiene. Caregivers should be formally included in surgical unit infection prevention initiatives. Visual feedback tools are recommended to help improve caregivers' hand hygiene technique.
