Catalonia has palliative care teams and NICE-aligned decision tools, but the study found continuing needs in access, coordination, planning, and support. Catalonia’s end-of-life care is mainly delivered through PADES across healthcare and social service settings. The Death Observatory of Catalonia was created to record end-of-life care quality data, inform policy, raise awareness, and challenge taboos around death. The study concluded that improving dying requires stronger integration across health and social care and better alignment with patient values and needs.
