Central Sensitization

Earlier intervention improves the chance of future pain-free days. The relationship between central sensitisation and adhesive capsulitis remains insufficiently understood. When neck pain co-exists with adhesive capsulitis, central sensitisation may intensify discomfort and further limit shoulder function. Endometriosis-related inflammation can remodel pain processing in the nervous system. Central sensitization can make ordinary gastrointestinal or menstrual stimuli feel significantly more painful. Cytokine-rich peritoneal fluid alters nerve function in endometriosis. IBS is common in endometriosis because pelvic central sensitization can trigger visceral hypersensitivity affecting the gut. Chronic shoulder pain can induce central sensitisation, amplifying pain transmission and pain perception. Inflammatory mediators can activate nociceptive nerve endings and promote central sensitisation. Central sensitisation is measured in the study using the Central Sensitisation Inventory and pressure pain threshold via a handheld algometer.
