Chest Tube

Once the fundamental principles of chest tube management are understood, insertion and ongoing care are manageable procedures. A chest tube creates a pathway for trapped air to escape the pleural space and allows the collapsed lung to re-expand. Chest tube placement is the standard treatment for tension pneumothorax.
