A phase 2 trial demonstrated that chiglitazar significantly improved steatohepatitis and reduced liver fat in MASLD patients, with greater effect at the higher dose. The short duration of the phase 2 trial underscores the need for the longer, larger study now being designed. Chiglitazar is a novel PPAR pan-agonist approved by China's NMPA for glycaemic control in adults with T2DM, as monotherapy or in combination with metformin. Concomitant use of other PPAR agonists and fibrate drugs is contraindicated in the chiglitazar trial. Unlike selective PPAR agonists, chiglitazar simultaneously activates all three PPAR subtypes with a moderate and balanced agonist profile.
