Blood sampling in the ICU was generally performed around 06:00 and additionally when bedside physicians judged it necessary. The findings support close short-interval chloride monitoring in ICU patients, especially during fluid therapy. The study suggests avoiding iatrogenic hyperchloraemia where possible.
