Long-term citrinin effects include liver dysfunction, kidney dysfunction, bone marrow dysfunction, kidney cancer, testicular cancer, oxidative DNA damage, and mutagenicity. Citrinin can be produced by Monascus purpureus, the yeast used to make red yeast rice.
