Clinical Pharmacists

Clinical pharmacists were central to implementation because they audited antimicrobial use, advised on therapy, reviewed irrational prescribing, provided feedback, and trained clinicians. Clinical pharmacists were considered well suited to stewardship leadership in a specialised surgical unit because of antimicrobial pharmacology and infectious disease expertise. Clinical pharmacists organised department-wide training sessions in response to irrational prescribing observed during the pre-implementation period.
