Staying low helps limit excessive vertical rise during the movement. Clients should actively push away from the ground instead of merely stepping or collapsing to the side. Landing weight should be centered over the foot with a heel-dominant focus. A key coaching cue is to stay low and not bop upward during the lateral step. The main coaching cue is to push the ground away opposite the lunge direction. The foot cue combines dorsiflexion with eversion in an up-and-out motion. The movement sequence begins with a back-pocket pull cue toward the heel of the top leg. The knee-down pull cue requires the leg to stay aligned with the rest of the body. Clients should stay low throughout the lateral lunge. The cue for the rotational portion is to rip the ball hard and fast as the lunge is loaded.
