The area beneath the clavicle may be very tender, especially where adhesions are present, and pressure should be kept gentle with incremental progression. The stretch works through mechanical decompression: lifting the clavicle creates space and manual pressure disrupts fibrous adhesions limiting movement. Tilting the head back during the stretch opens space and places the clavicle in a more accessible position. A slight pop or click during the stretch is normal and indicates release of a restriction. The working hand should move progressively from the medial end near the sternum outward toward the shoulder, applying lift-and-hold at each point along the clavicle's length. The stretch is performed by placing fingers flat against the chest just below the collarbone to apply gentle upward pressure from underneath, with the other hand resting over the top of the clavicle. Both sides should be performed and compared to identify which clavicle is more restricted.
