Collective Decision-Making

Prior awareness of the deceased person's explicit wishes can make those wishes a moral obligation for the family to respect. Pakistani organ donation decisions are usually not made by individuals alone. Many participants who supported donation would defer to family wishes if parents opposed it. Some participants viewed the family as the proper authority to grant or withhold consent after death. Most participants had not discussed organ donation with family members and were uneasy about raising the topic.
