The definition was developed using Walker and Avant concept analysis of 140 English-language original research studies from 2000 onward. The analysis was limited by variation in the quality, scope, and conceptual clarity of available studies. Walker and Avant's model may not fully capture the evolving and contextual nature of postoperative mobilisation. The analysis used a structured method that includes identifying attributes, cases, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents. The literature search covered MEDLINE, AMED, Embase, and CINAHL through 5 December 2024.
