Convergent Boundaries

Subduction recycles crust by sending one plate beneath another into Earth's interior. Convergent boundaries occur where plates collide. Crust created in one place must be balanced by crust consumed elsewhere because Earth is not expanding or shrinking. Subduction zones are associated with major earthquakes.
