Before this protocol, Cycle Nation had not been tested in a fully powered randomised controlled trial or assessed for long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. Previous cycling intervention studies often had small samples, short follow-up and limited economic evaluation. The community-adapted version showed feasibility, acceptability and short-term effectiveness in Manchester and Glasgow. A prior Cycle Nation workplace pilot reported an average increase of 3.0 rides per week.
