Cytology

Cytology is the microscopic examination of individual patient cells for abnormalities or suspicious features. The 1988 cytology standard assumed microscopy was physically co-located with the reviewing pathologist. The Pap smear is presented as a widely recognized example of cytology in clinical practice.
