The study evaluated three diabetic retinopathy screening delivery models in rural Punjab using specialist grading as the reference standard. Conventional diabetic retinopathy screening can be difficult to scale in low-resource and rural settings. Diabetic retinopathy screening is important in India because DR prevalence among people with diabetes is higher than the global average. Participants with referable diabetic retinopathy in the two active screening arms were referred to the district hospital based on reference-standard grading.
