Comprehensive DBT reduced emotional reactivity, self-harm, and suicidal ideation in adolescent depression trials. DBT skills training without weekly individual sessions may have completion and dropout rates comparable with full-model DBT. DBT is an evidence-based approach for mental health symptoms involving emotional dysregulation. DBT teaches skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. Session fidelity is monitored by videotaping 10% of sessions for review by a psychiatrist who is a senior DBT trainer. DBT skills training is delivered in a group format that includes both adolescents and caregivers. The DBT content in this trial is tailored to adolescents with higher body weight, including strategies for emotional reactive eating and coping with bullying.
