Digital monitoring varied across sites and pathways. Information technology infrastructure was a major resource barrier for virtual ward implementation. Variation in electronic patient record systems limited integration between virtual wards and other services. Different IT platforms hindered collaboration and evaluation data collection. Outdated systems were viewed as restricting the development and expansion of the virtual ward programme.
