Dopamine Synthesis Pathway

Pharmacologically targeting the end-product dopamine while ignoring upstream cofactors does not address the root dysfunction. Dopamine is produced through a multi-step biochemical pathway that begins with the amino acid tyrosine. Each enzyme in the dopamine synthesis pathway requires specific vitamin and mineral cofactors to function. A deficiency in any single cofactor renders the entire dopamine synthesis pathway dysfunctional.
