The double-lumen tube is currently the most widely used lung isolation method. DLT size is selected based on patient gender and height. DLT tracheal cuff pressure is set to 25 cmH₂O and bronchial cuff pressure to 30 cmH₂O. Published rates of postoperative sore throat with DLT are 35–45%. Postoperative sore throat, hoarseness, and laryngopharyngeal oedema are common sequelae of DLT use. The DLT's large external diameter and rigid construction are associated with significant airway trauma. DLT placement requires standard laryngoscopy and FOB-confirmed positioning.
