Serial preoperative and postoperative dual biomarker measurements allowed detection of both myocardial injury and sustained cardiac stress. Serial biomarker testing was characterized as objective, readily available, inexpensive, relatively cost-effective, and less resource-intensive than more complex monitoring. The biomarker combination is useful because RCRI had limited discriminatory value in this cohort. Systematic perioperative testing with both hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP can identify higher-risk patients after elective thoracic lung resection. The dual-biomarker approach may support closer monitoring, cardiology involvement, and refined postoperative follow-up.
