Ecological Restoration

The framing of environmental intervention as a binary choice between restoring nature and managing it like landscaped real estate is a false dichotomy. The aspiration to restore ecosystems to their former state reflects a romanticism that misunderstands the extent of damage done and the direction of ongoing change. A genuine return to pre-industrial ecosystem conditions is impossible. Earth's planetary systems are on a trajectory that cannot simply be reversed.
