The default hand position during the drill is palm facing upward. Pressing the hands upward into the held object causes the biceps and brachialis to contract. For individuals with a large amount of elbow extension, a palm-down position is recommended for comfort and to reinforce the front of the elbow. The drill can function as an upper-body motor-control exercise for individuals with significant elbow mobility.
