The conventional medical framing of erectile dysfunction as complex with many unknowns is accurate but not particularly actionable. Erectile dysfunction is fundamentally a problem of inadequate nitric oxide production or delivery, coupled with impaired blood flow through arterial and venous structures in the penis. Some high blood pressure medications can cause erectile dysfunction or ED-like symptoms as a side effect. Some psychological or psychiatric medications can negatively affect sexual performance. Common risk factors for erectile dysfunction — including aging, smoking, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease — all share the downstream effect of reducing nitric oxide availability. When bedroom performance issues are medication-related, that factor must be addressed rather than assuming acoustic wave therapy alone will solve the problem.
