ESCORT is a multicentre, single-blind randomised controlled trial in China enrolling 680 adults. If the low target is superior, the trial could provide level A evidence supporting stricter guideline targets. The intervention starts after enrolment and randomisation and continues until operating-room anaesthesia or withdrawal. ESCORT is designed to determine the optimal preoperative heart-rate target in adults with ATAAD undergoing surgery.
