Ethnically Diverse Older Adults

Community-dwelling older adults accounted for most hospitalisation episodes in the study. In winter, symptoms, signs and abnormalities NEC overtook circulatory diseases from 2015 onward. In summer, symptoms, signs and abnormalities NEC overtook neoplasms from 2014 onward. Language barriers, acculturation challenges, socio-economic disadvantage, and culturally specific limits on outside-home participation compound this group's health needs. Ethnically diverse older adults in the UK are described as among the most sedentary and least active population subgroups. Language was identified as a significant structural barrier for programmes working with ethnic minority older adults. Some organisations used local faith groups and cultural societies to reach ethnically diverse older adults.
