Baseline EBM algorithms output only ordinal stages, affecting how staging evaluations were performed. Traditional EBMs model a disease event as a biomarker switching from a benign to a pathological distribution. EBMs can rely on biologically unrealistic assumptions such as irreversibility and conditional independence among biomarkers.
