Evidence Gaps

The article presents reciprocal innovation as an opportunity for lessons from LMICs to be adapted across income settings. LMIC AI health research may address local priorities, strengthen capacity, increase equitable access, reduce reliance on development aid, and accelerate global trade. Research in LMICs may improve AI generalizability by sampling more representative populations and health data. The study suggests LMIC-led NIH-supported research may generate scientific output and public health impact efficiently. Quantitative survey findings were not compared because the review was measurement-focused and the survey objectives and designs were highly heterogeneous. The protocol critiques evaluation criteria that privilege attendance, duration, justice outcomes, education outcomes, or comparison with non-Indigenous populations. Orthotic solutions are described in more operational detail than prosthetic solutions in the literature. The smaller LMIC funding share compared with project share likely reflects lower direct and indirect costs.
