Exercise during pregnancy has documented benefits, yet many pregnant women do not exercise at recommended levels. Longitudinal or experimental research is needed to clarify the direction of the observed relationships. Beliefs about exercise are presented as psychological determinants of whether pregnant women engage in physical activity. Stronger beliefs about exercise benefits may support participation, stress reduction, coping, psychological well-being, and quality of life. The study suggests nursing interventions that strengthen exercise health beliefs may contribute to maternal well-being.
