General programming can be useful when it teaches basic movement patterns well. People with low training experience may improve from simple exposure to good movement without immediate heavy individualization. General programs tend to produce general results and must eventually reflect specific goals. The exercise can be programmed either by a prescribed number of repetitions or by a prescribed duration of time. A general exercise program is difficult to judge universally because it lacks a consistent definition. The lifter should crouch down into position before initiating the rowing movement. Prolonged anaerobic exercise is described as stressful, especially when sustained for 30 to 40 minutes in the anaerobic range. For people with major life stressors or those restoring health, prolonged anaerobic exercise is not recommended. Fitness-focused exercise can use anaerobic activity, but it should be intense and brief. Health-focused exercise is described as favoring long-duration, low-stress aerobic activity.
