At shorter EIPs, lifespan estimates become especially important because more mosquitoes survive the incubation period. The study evaluated EIP values of 10, 20, and 30 days. Malaria transmission depends strongly on mosquito survival through the Plasmodium falciparum extrinsic incubation period. Bias from assuming constant mortality increased as EIP increased from 10 to 30 days. At long EIP values, few mosquitoes survive long enough to become infectious, making survival assumptions highly consequential.
