Farm-Based Child Feeding

Carrying porridge to the farm helped keep children nearby and provided some food during the workday, but created feeding risks. Mothers commonly prepared porridge early and carried it with the child to the farm. Farm-based feeding could involve rushed preparation, insufficient amounts, poor nutrient adequacy, and hygiene constraints. Children were fed in the field when they cried or seemed hungry.
