Fatty Acid Synthase

Fatty acid synthase is an enzyme responsible for synthesizing lipids in the body. Cancer cells overexpress FAS to produce the lipids they need for their cell membranes. FAS is overexpressed in cancer cells, which require elevated FAS activity to sustain growth. Inhibiting FAS directly undermines cancer cells' ability to maintain themselves.
