Frontline Healthcare Innovation

Frontline staff are well placed to identify system problems and develop practical solutions because they work directly within care delivery. Traditional top-down healthcare innovation driven by senior management has struggled to create lasting, meaningful, and sustainable change at the required scale. Healthcare innovation operates across macro, meso, and micro organisational levels, with the study focused on the micro level of frontline staff. Frontline innovation requires structured support systems that connect frontline insights with organisational implementation capacity. Frontline innovation that is too sporadic will not be sustained, and innovation that remains too low-level may not be captured and scaled by the organisation. European healthcare systems need systemic innovation to respond to demographic, epidemiological, environmental, and technological pressures.
