Professionals who felt able to influence situations and contribute to teamwork tended to show stronger moral resilience. Participants experienced conflicting loyalties among helping patients, performing routine tasks, following safety procedures, and fearing infection. Professionals who felt powerless or unable to influence working conditions were more vulnerable. The study examined frontline healthcare professionals in Swedish general hospital wards assigned to COVID-19 patients during the first pandemic wave. The sample included 46 healthcare professionals from multiple professional roles. Most participants had more than five years of professional experience, more than half were under 50, and most were women.
